While football rules the roost among Canadian sports bettors, it is basketball that generates the most revenue for SIA, owing to the National Basketball Association’s (NBA) 82-game season. Canada’s highest profile NBA team is the Toronto Raptors, who rose to global stardom in 2019 after a tense 114-110 win against the Golden State Warriors.
Gaming responsibly, always
At Entain we have sustainability at the core of our strategy, and Mohawk Online matches that passion. Mohawk Online prides itself on its leadership in corporate governance and responsible gaming in its markets. Since its inception, the SIA brand has always kept the customer at the heart of its operations, motivated by the belief that great customer service and care results in a sound business. Mohawk Online has proudly carried on that tradition.
Mohawk Online is licenced by the Kahnawà:ke Gaming Commission, widely recognized to be a pioneer in the regulation of online gaming, and by the Jersey Gaming Commission. Mohawk Online is also registered with the Jersey Financial Services Commission. Mohawk Online provides strict know-your-customer (KYC) checks, as well as tools and interventions to help keep players from harm. Mohawk Online’s focus on unrivalled player safety and service has led to the SIA brand having a customer satisfaction score of 90% and a high level of retention.
Mohawk Online is a socio-economic initiative, wholly owned by the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke. Mohawk Online operations are grounded on Kahnawà:ke’s Indigenous right to conduct gaming within and from the Mohawk Territory of Kahnawà:ken in accordance with its own laws and regulations. Kahnawà:ke’s Indigenous right can be reconciled with subsection 35(1) of the Canadian Constitution Act, 1982 and with the principles set out in the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, endorsed by Canada in 2010.
A portion of Mohawk Online revenues are invested back into the community of Kahnawà:ke to provide essential funding for cultural and language programmes, schools, healthcare and other public services. Fifty per cent of Avid Gaming and Mohawk Online employees in Kahnawà:ke are Mohawk persons, and in 2020 Mohawk Online revenues played a vital role in Kahnawà:ke’s Covid-19 relief efforts by donating C$4m to projects supporting those most in need.
